British Airways has announced the launch of its highly anticipated next-generation First seat with innovative design and craftsmanship. Set to debut as part of the airline’s A380 retrofit program in mid-2026, the new First cabin offers an elevated experience inspired by modern British luxury and the comforts of a five-star hotel at 35,000 feet.
The new First seat, designed in collaboration with expert designers and world-class manufacturers from across the UK and Ireland, exemplifies British elegance and attention to detail. With a 36.5-inch ultra-wide seat that converts into a 79-inch fully flat bed, the cabin is tailored for ultimate comfort. Featuring a 60-inch curved privacy wall, passengers enjoy a cocooned space that feels intimate yet spacious.
Key features include:
- Multi-purpose Ottoman and elegant stowable table for added versatility.
- A 32-inch 4K TV with customizable mood lighting settings such as ‘relax,’ ‘dine,’ and ‘cinema.’
- Buddy dining capabilities for travelers sharing a center suite, with a sliding divider and stowable tables creating a shared lounge experience.
- Personal luggage space for effortless storage and accessibility.
- Innovative ‘do not disturb’ functionality via a wireless control tablet, ensuring uninterrupted rest.
- The design incorporates elements inspired by the iconic Concorde, including elegant cabin curves and ambient lighting subtly referencing the airline’s speedmarque. Thoughtful additions, such as soft acoustic panelling for sound absorption and automated window blinds for all three windows per seat, enhance the sense of privacy and serenity.
British Airways collaborated with Collins Aerospace, a leader in premium aircraft seating, to bring this ambitious project to life. This partnership builds on the success of British Airways’ Club Suite and short-haul seat upgrades, ensuring consistency across its premium offerings.
“We’re incredibly proud to launch the next era of First,” said Calum Laming, British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer. “This new seat pushes the boundaries of comfort and modernity, reflecting customer feedback and preferences to the finest detail. Paired with our world-class service and exclusive benefits, such as First Wing entry and access to our award-winning Concorde Room, we’re delivering an extraordinary travel experience.”
British Airways remains the only European carrier from the UK offering a First product across the Atlantic. Passengers flying First enjoy exclusive services, including fast-track security, priority boarding, and access to the airline’s renowned lounges.
This launch is part of British Airways’ £7 billion transformation, which has already introduced over 120 customer-focused enhancements, such as refreshed lounges, free Wi-Fi messaging, and upgraded short-haul seats.
